Narrow aisle forklifts
Narrow aisle forklifts are generally used within warehousing operations. These types of forklifts are essential tools within the business as their excellent maneuverability and small size allow warehouses to utilize space to maximum storing capacity. They could easily pass aisles as narrow as 1.8 meters wide, whereas standard lift trucks require at least 3.4 meters of aisle width.
The two types are "narrow aisle forklift" and the "very narrow aisle forklift". The first require 2.4 meters - 3 meters in aisle width, whilst the second could function in a 1.8 meters wide space.
The design of a narrow aisle forklift includes forks positioned at right angles to the truck body. The trucks do not have to face the shelves, but instead drive straight down the aisle picking up loads to the side. This design feature is the key to their suitability for tight spaces.
Some very narrow aisle forklifts come with optical or wire guidance systems which ensure the forklift moves in a straight line down the aisle, that leaves the operator free to focus on load placement and picking.
These types of lifts are outfitted with cushion tires made from solid rubber. The hard tires perform well on concrete floors and paved, smooth surfaces. Narrow aisle forklifts have electric motors which is best used within indoor places. Propane-powered versions are available also.
